About

I’m George Dixon, a freelance photographer working primarily on film, documenting football across matchdays, supporter culture, and club life.

I started FloodlightsOn as a personal project — sharing football experiences captured on 35mm film, largely following Newcastle United. My first roll was shot at St. James’ Park in October 2019: Newcastle United vs Manchester United. Steve Bruce in the dugout. Mike Ashley the owner. Matty Longstaff scoring the winner on his Premier League debut. A moment that now feels a world away from where the club stands today.

FloodlightsOn took shape during the 2020–21 lockdown period, when supporters were shut out of stadiums. Based in London, I focused on matchdays without crowds — documenting atmosphere, absence, and anticipation. When fans returned, the energy shifted instantly. The work became about presence again: emotion, release, and collective experience.

As soon as I could return to Newcastle matches, the camera came with me every time. The aim was simple: to document what it feels like to follow the club, on and off the pitch, through moments of tension, joy, and change.

That supporter-led work has since led to commissions across professional football for clubs, leagues, and brands, while FloodlightsOn continues as a long-term documentary project.

Available for matchday coverage, club commissions, and editorial assignments. Based in London — available UK-wide and internationally.
